PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — As Scottie Scheffler exited the 18th green at Royal Portrush on Sunday, off to make things official in the scorer’s tent, his father, Scott Scheffler, was being a dad.

As Scottie was celebrating his newfound win, son Bennett—born last year to Scheffler and his high school sweetheart, Meredith—tried to make his way to Dad across the 18th green at Royal Portrush. And, well, the one-year-old struggled a bit.

Lord Byron, who won a record 11 tournaments in a single season, famously gave up golf once he’d made enough money to buy the North Texas ranch he’d always wanted. Nelson had many fine qualities as a golfer, but quality of life remained his ultimate goal. Couldn’t help thinking of Byron last week while listening to Scheffler.
