WASHINGTON: Donald Trump will hold talks with China's Xi Jinping during the upcoming APEC summit in South Korea, the US president said in a Fox interview excerpt released Friday (Oct 17).
President Donald Trump signaled on Friday that he may meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping within weeks and reiterated his controversial assertion that India will stop buying Russian oil. The latest remarks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House for crucial talks on long-range weapons and peace negotiations.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump was asked about his earlier threat to raise tariffs on Chinese goods by 100%. He replied that such a high tariff was “not sustainable” though “it could stand.
US President Trump is expected to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea amid escalating trade tensions. The US plans to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese imports starting November 1, following China's new restrictions on rare earth exports.
