The latest rumors suggest that the San Diego Padres are interested in trading for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara.

Two starting pitchers who have in not-so-long-ago seasons been among the most feared in baseball took the mound Wednesday afternoon at loanDepot park. Only one of them evidently did so after emerging from a time machine.

The Padres' interest in Alcántara comes shortly after reports that they are willing to discuss a trade for fellow right-hander Dylan Cease. Both pitchers have had their ups and downs this year, but their track record and pitching arsenal make them attractive.

Hopping over to the other side, San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado has also dominated Cardinals starter Sonny Gray. He’s 11-for-32 with two doubles and a pair of home runs. Machado is having a nice season overall, hitting .285 with 18 long balls and 61 RBI.
