The Denver Broncos, picked by many to have the best defense in the NFL in 2025, have a terrific roster of players that have helped lead to that belief.
The Denver Broncos had won back-to-back Super Bowls before drafting Gary. They were also making the swap from a future Hall of Fame quarterback (John Elway) to second-year passer Brian Griese. What followed was mostly underwhelming.
ESPN had NFL execs, coaches and scouts rank the top 10 players at 11 positions this offseason, and 11 Broncos players received votes.
Last season, the Broncos cut fullback Michael Burton, but re-signed him to the practice squad after he cleared waivers and then called him back up to the main roster, where he played in all 17 regular-season games. The team also had Nate Adkins, who is still on the roster.
Denver Broncos' outside linebacker Nik Bonitto led the team with 13.5 sacks in 2024, and now he's in a contract year. Bonitto recently broke his silence in regards to a new contract.
Sheppard (6-2, 198 pounds) was one of seven players who tried out for the Broncos at mandatory minicamp, but none of them were signed. The 23-year-old receiver spent four years at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado ahead of the 2024 season.
"Every day, it's finding a way to get better," Nix said this offseason. "You don't want to get to Year 2 or go down the road, and all of a sudden you got stuck and didn’t get any better. So, that's my focus right now.
