A woman from South Los Angeles has been federally charged for allegedly making false claims that she was kidnapped by immigration officials, the U.S. Department of Justice says. Yuriana Julia Pelaez Calderon, 41, is charged in a federal criminal complaint with conspiracy and making false statements to federal officials.

She’s been accused of staging her own kidnapping at a fast food restaurant, where she claims she was abducted by bounty hunters at gunpoint and held hostage in a warehouse in an effort to get her to self-deport.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday announced charges against a 41-year-old undocumented mother from South Los Angeles, accusing her of orchestrating a fake kidnapping by federal immigration agents to generate sympathy and solicit donations.
