Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti sent a letter to the NCAA Committee on Infractions suggesting that Michigan’s football program should not face more sanctions stemming from a sign-stealing scheme, according to two people familiar with the situation.

Petitti on Tuesday confirmed that he wrote a letter to the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions on Michigan’s behalf, as reported this week by ESPN and later confirmed by MLive/ The Ann Arbor News, telling reporters at Big Ten Media Days in Las Vegas that it’s “not uncommon for a conference office to weigh in.”

Davon Benjamin is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #36 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #5 safety and the #7 player in the state of California. Benjamin currently attends Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, CA. Michigan is a long way from home.
