On this elevated ground stands the private chapel and crypt of the Johnstone family of Carnsalloch, constructed around 1850 by architect E. B. Lamb in a decorated Gothic style for the Johnstones of Carnsalloch. The building comprises two bays with stepped buttresses, a five-sided apse at the east and a pointed-arched entrance in the west gable. The crypt below served as the burial place of the family.
