It's World Anteater Day! Today, 19th November is World Anteater Day. On this day, the world's 4 anteater species are celebrated - the giant anteater, the silky anteater, the northern tamandua and the southern tamandua. This day also raises awreness about anteater conservation. Joaquim the Southern Tamandua—a species of anteater found in South America—was rescued as a baby after wildfires separated him from his mother. He was found at just 30 days old, but thanks to the team at the Tamandua Institute, he is now fully rehabilitated and can be released back into the wild! This giant anteater was spotted by our camera traps less than 200 m away from our Amazon Research Center Lodge (ARC). The largest of all four anteater species, the giant anteater can reach eight feet long from the tip of its snout to the end of its tail.
